Vacation Time By Country... Guess Where The US Ranks?

Man, I guess those labor unions here in the states really are the cause of all our financial problems....

Silly followers of Tea Party philosophy.... have you no ability to see beyond the thin veneer of "common sense conservativism" to the multi-national coporations and disgustingly wealthey backers?  Do you not see that labor unions are really out to help the working man.  Like, for real real help, not this "let's prevent all abortions, kill unions, lock and and flay the gays" help that the Republicans are offering right now while they are supposedly "focusing on jobs."

On a lighter note, a friend of ours is moving to France this year, so good for him and his ridiculously better vacation structure.  And I've always thought Spain would be a fun place to live...

I'm Still Not Understanding Your Point Of View?

Try as I might every day, I simply don't understand. What is there to fight about? What is going on that can possibly be so important that these people have to interject their opinion?

Here's the reality: the Government of the United States of America has made an egregious over sight error by not affording persons of the same-sex equal marriage rights. In fact, that Government has contradicted it's own Equal Protections clause by excluding LGBT folk from the legal protections of the institution of marriage. Us LGBT's have called that over sight in to question and demanded that the laws of the land be brought in sync with each other. So again I ask, what can there possibly be to fight about here?

Some of the ass-crazy conservative groups want to throw out hyperbolic claims of the end of the world or whatever nonsense is popular to their mentally deficient leaders that day, but it doesn't make any sense. At all. In fact, this is a fight to expand current Civil protections, not shrink them. If anything, more protections can only mean good things for everyone.

The newest is this idea that marriage equality will somehow erode the "rights" of some Christian groups to openly hate gay people. Well, that's not true at all. The institution of marriage isn't about eroding rights, it's about offering protections. What will prevent certain extremists from calling for the continued harassment of young gay kids is Anti-Discrimination Law. The same laws that ironically protect these twisted twits I might add. Marriage Equality and Anti-Discrimination are two different things all together.

Now then, it is Discriminatory to deny us LGBT people the same rights as other, non-LGBT people. And it is discriminatory to accept public funding, some of which comes from LGBT folk, and deny the public the right to use your services or property. That's discrimination, and those sorts of things are prevented or punished because of Anti-Discrimination laws, not Marriage law.
So, one more time I ask: What in the world are we fighting about? If the Christian fundies want to start talking Anti-Discrimination Law, I'd be happy to go there with them. However, I am still baffled on a daily basis trying to understand why they are involved in the Marriage debate at all. I just don't understand, and to me that is the most frustrating part of this whole non-debate. Give me my fucking rights already!

It's Time For A TEA Party! And, No, It's Not The IML Kind...

I have to admit, I'm a bit amused by the newest sham being thrown together by the Conservatives of our country. On Tax Day, April 15, the right wing plans to protest all across the country at the same time to show their disgust for such things as:

- "How dare they let them there brown people into my country… that my ancestors stole from them…"
- "How dare the Gov'mint try to provide realistic solutions to the our farcical health care system" - "How dare them Warshinton Elitists attempt to tax themselves more so that we average Amuricans can pay our bills better."

And my personal favorite:

- "How dare them bastards support equal rights for them gays and them blacks and them Latinos! This is my country!"

They are calling it the TEA Party (how quaint), and acronym for Taxed Enough Already. Which you are Taxed Enough Already. If you make less than $150,000 a year, which is why your taxes won't go up with the Obama Administration's plan, but hey, who's actually taking the time to read things when it's much easier to listen to the Republican Savior Bill O'Reilly.

It simply amazes me that somehow, poor and middle-class white x-tians have convinced themselves that they should be fighting for the rights of rich white atheists instead of for their own rights and their neighbors rights. Or doing things like, I don't know, helping and loving your neighbor… or working to alleviate to that pesky poverty issue… or whatever.

To be honest, the above quotes are paraphrased. It seems that haters feel the need to hide their bigoted thoughts with as flowery a wording as they can manage. But, if you feel so inclined as to see the actual wording (and to be fair to the opposition… which is more than they'd consider), here's the link to Official TEA website. You can even get names and phone numbers of local idiots near you! Except Chicago, because the organizer is apparently to afraid to post his/her own information...

Palin And The Preggers Perdicament...

Oh, how I adore hypocritical idiots, and I particularly enjoy them when they are poorly chosen VP candidates. Like, oh, I don't know, Sarah Palin, who doesn't believe in safer sex education in schools, and also doesn't believe in telling her daughter to not have sex before marriage, because her 17-year-old daughter is now five months pregnant! Yep. Her underage child is preggers, most likely because Mommy Palin chose to not support real-life based sex education, instead pushing an abstinence only agenda, which leaves out the notion that if you make the decision to go ahead an have sex anyway, you should probably use a condom. And her daughter obviously didn't use a condom.

Now "adult" Palin is telling Palin Jr. that she will marry the boy that knocked her up. No joke. All old school and shit. It's like the 50's or something, except the only reason they are being forced to marry is because all the sudden Grandma is on the National Stage as the Conservative Arm of the Republican ticket. Mabye G-ma is a bit worried about McCain's support of measures to screw over teen mothers, so she want to betroth her daughter with the quickness.

And I'm sure the husband to be, a self-described "fucking redneck," will be just as classy a husband and father as Poppa Palin, the fisherman and snowmobiler. On a side note, this article over at the NY Daily News is a little bit creepy in tone. I mean, the new dad is kind of cute, for a Podunk hockey player, but honestly, he's still in high school, and these ladies are talking about him like he's McSteamy or something!

I'll be honest, when I first heard the news about Palin, I was a tiny bit concerned, because the immediate perception of her is that of a do-good, morally superior, hard-working all-american woman, but the more I learn about her, the more I realize that, even if some of those qualities are true, she doesn't even know what the Vice President does (video clip below)! Maybe she should have campaigned for a bit more school funding, because I learned about that back in, what, middle school? High school at the latest…

Conservatives Attack Gay Prom

queer prom 08

Prom was magical for me.  I graduated from a rural-ish high school in Kentucky that held some strong conservative values, but my school wasn't nearly as bad as some.  What was great about my school was that there were a few of us students that were out, and we felt very little resistance, even though a good chunk of the student body came to school after working the farms in the morning.

Although I didn't go to prom with a same sex date, I knew it would not have been an issue.  Hell, one of our opposite sex couples c423 ame in drag, he in a dress and she in a tux.  Classic.  Unfortunately, for many, many students across the country, my experience doesn't translate.

Here in Chicago, a group of young men and women came together to celebrate a Gay Prom and party in an open and affirming environment this past Friday.  Sounds like a wonderful idea, right?  Well, unless you're a conservative ass-hat.

The Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, aka "straight" people that spend more time on gay sites than us gays do, decided that this event was just pure evil.  Why?  Well, putting aside all the normal BS these types of pricks use, they AFTAH were particularly perturbed by the fact that Steamworks was sponsoring the event.  What's more, the hosts had the nerve to invite adults to be present.  How dare they!

Look, Steamworks, for whatever seediness may be occur there, is an extremely community conscious organization that focuses on safety and consent above all.  What's more, attacking the event because adults will be present is plain asinine!  SteamworksShow me a high school sponsored Prom without adults.  Go ahead, take your time.

The thing here is that they are trying to use the old standard that all Homosexuals are sexually predatory beasts, lurking in corners just waiting for the opportunity to strike out at the nearest "boy," while trying to insinuate that heterosexuals never inflict harm on children.  Good job there, ass-hats.  But just because you point to a blue wall and call it red doesn't mean I'm going to believe it.

I would link to the original post of these fundy pricks, but I don't want to give them traffic.  Check out the inspiration for this post and follow the link there if you really want to sicken yourself with this ridiculousness.
