You Can't Make This Up

I'm seriously having trouble understanding why people even listen to twits like this guy anymore. Remember Sally Kern, the Oklahoma State Rep that rallies votes by spreading scary "gays are going to invade and rape all our menses" stories? Her husband, Steve Kern, is a pastor at a local church (go figure), and recently had this to say about us queers:

"We have to get rid of that and start curing those sinners. It's past time that this nation stopped placating sin and start putting them in education programs. Courts can force drug offenders into treatment centers and violent people into anger management. There's no reason our courts can't do that with homos."

Yep, we should be sent to rehabilitation. Sent away and taught to love the punnany. But only for reproductive purposes, of course. Maybe that's why these people are so angry, they only have sex when they want to make a baby.

Still, I have to wonder if their followers wake up in the morning and think to themselves "Gee, I just can't wait to suggest that gay people should be more oppressed in our society." It must be great to not have to think about other people and completely disregard other people's freedoms when describing your perfect future. I've said it a million times, I think Christians should absolutely have the right to practice their religion. But do it in the privacy of your own home, we all don't want to have to see that in public, and how in the world are we going to explain it to our kids? Oh… wait…

I want to be able to laugh at these kinds of bigots, but when I realize they wield some political power, no matter how much, I get concerned. Then, I just get pissed. But with this guy, I really feel saddened and embarrassed that our educational system has failed to impart the proper knowledge of how our justice system works, and that his special breed of disturbed hate is more likely to get him sent to rehab than any cock-loving queen out there.

It's OK For Us, Just Not You

There seems to be this sense amongst social conservatives/religious fundamentalists that they are impervious to their own hypocrisy. They are free to scream and rant and rave, but heaven forbid someone point out the blatantly two-faced statements from their leaders. Lets just take this one for example from Sally Kern. Sally is a publicly elected official from Oklahoma who was recently called out for her lie-filled, hate-inspired rants about gay people. Well, she was reelected to office this past election day, and had a few words to say about it:

“My race and Dana Murphy’s race show that Oklahoma is one of the most conservative states [in] the nation – and we still believe strongly in the Judeo-Christian ethic,” Rep. Kern told Americans For Truth. “We will take a stand up for what we believe in – in spite of the attacks by liberal elites and the attempt by pro-homosexual special interest groups to use out-of-state money to influence the vote in our state.”

I see. It's completely unacceptable for people of differing beliefs to funnel money into an election in hopes of defeating bias and out-right hate where they see it. Unless, of course, it involves an issue the bigoted feel passionate about, like marriage rights. In that case, it should be applauded that literally $25+ million was shoveled into the hands of Prop 8 supporters from outside the State. Then it's completely OK to channel money to an election in another state trying to affect a particular outcome.

Here's the deal Conservatives. If you feel the need to slide money into an election that doesn't actually affect you in any way, feel free to do so. However, when your opponents do the same, shut the fuck up about it and realize that not all politics are local. We gays have a vested interest in the Sally Kern of the world not being in any official public policy making position, because any anti gay legislation in turn affects all of us. You are not that innocent, as evidence by the vitriolic bile you spit out about gays, and I'm calling your bluff.
