Congratulations Canada, the world is now aware that your country is not sull of roses, sunshine, and smiling, happy people. You have nutjobs just like everyone else.
Apparently, this David Popuescu fella from our Northerly neighbor has decided that it would be cute to tell a bunch of high school students that if he were elected to an office (any office, I presume), that he would kill gay people. Not persecute, torture, tickle, or "reform." Kill…. Yep.
Why would someone say these things? Because, he says, the Bible is clear as day on the issue, and he's a strict Biblist. Except when it's not convienient to be a literalist. But in this case, he's absolutely a strict interpreter of the Bible, because, well… gays are gay… and stuff...
Canada has some pretty stringent laws in place againt hate speech, so this duesche has been arrested and an investigation is under way into this vile man's words. Putting aside the "should someone be arrested simply for saying what they feel" debate, what is it about some forms of religion that push people to these extremes?! This guy probably has no intention of stoning his daughters on the court house steps, or waching the feet of any of his supporters, but when it comes to the 'mos, it's time to go all Biblical? While we are worried about radical Islamic terrorists in this country, shouldn't someone start being worried about the threats some of our extremist Christian churches are brewing?
