O'Hare Airport is an utter shit hole. If anyone has ever wondered why exactly the airlines have been struggling lately, it might possibly be because of O'Hare alone.
My flight was delayed today for 4 hours (I know, not nearly as bad as some), not because of the weather. My flight was delayed because they simply did not have a pilot for it. The flight leaving the gate next to mine didn't have a flight attendant. They were also delayed for several hours. Why they didn't put the flight attendant from my flight with the pilot from the other flight and have at least one plane flying, I couldn't tell you...
Anyway, I can't pretend to know how incredibly complex the airline system is. Honestly, no clue here. But what I can tell you is, after making customers wait for 4 hours, the last thing those customers want to hear is:
"You plane's toilet is not working, so we recommend you use the rest room here. However, do it now, because we should be boarding soon." Especially after you've held it in for 2.5 hours of "we should be boarding soon..."
