This weeks has been a blur. Since Tuesday evening, everything I see has been filtered through anger and rage. I am extremely happy that
Obama won the presidency, there is no doubt about that, but as I said
previously, once that announcement was made, all my attention went to
Prop 8 in
California and the similar measures in
Florida and
Arizona. Since they've all seemingly passed, it has dawned on me that the only way to make a change in this world is to fight for, sometimes bitterly.
Tomorrow morning I take my
GMAT. This is a test that is designed to assess my skills and could potentially determine whether or not I get into grad school. I've been studying for a couple months, but I'm just not grasping things as well anymore. In high school and college, I excelled at math. Statistics and Algebra, long time foes of many, didn’t even bother me. In fact, I enjoyed my statistics classes. Now however, it seems that I've lost a large piece of my knowledge and skill in the Math department and have been reduced to reviewing basic mathematic functions. But I'm determined to do well on this test. I have my concerns, but I also have determination, which will trump my fears.
Tomorrow evening, I plan on attending a protest of
James Dobson and his horrendous organization in downtown
Chicago.
Dobson is being awarded for his "efforts" in
bigotry hatred out-right lying furthering radio communication. I've dabbled in political activism from time-to-time in my life, attending various rallies and marches as well as donating time in a phone bank and going door-to-door in the fight against
Cincinnati's Article 12 (this was a unique Article in the City Charter. It specifically allowed for workplace and housing discrimination based on sexual orientation, the only city in the country to have such a provision... and people wonder why I left...), but for some reason this feels different. This feels monumental, as if the flood gates are opening to a larger movement.
Tomorrow late evening I plan on drinking heavily.
I plan on having plenty to write about after the rally tomorrow, and hopefully I'll have several pictures to share as well.
